Sylvia “Pat” Frazier went to spend Christmas and eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on December 20, 2021 after fighting dementia for 8 years. Pat and Larry enjoyed 58 wonderful years of marriage and lived throughout the world during her 78 years of life. Pat is survived by her husband (Larry), 2 sons (Larry and Darrow), 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren; her brother (Walter Franklin Hatcher) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pat was born October 20, 1943 in Freeport, Texas to Grayton and Zinnie Hatcher. She spent most of her childhood in west Texas, predominately Quanah. Her father passed away when she was a small child and her mom married a great man, Percy Darrow, that acted as her daddy, a true blessing to her growing up.
Percy started Pat’s world travel when he was stationed in Morocco. She graduated from high school and would meet the love of her life, Larry. Larry proposed on April Fool’s Day and she took him seriously and they were married on July 18, 1963 in Madison Wisconsin.
Throughout her life, she lived in many places around the world. These included Texas, (Freeport, Abilene and Quanah); Morocco, Sault St Marie, MI (Kincheloe AFB), Bellevue, NE, Guam (Andersen AFB), Rapid City, SD (Ellsworth AFB), Denver, CO (Lowry AFB), Omaha, NE (Offutt AFB), Roff, OK, Minot, ND (Minot AFB), San Antonio, TX (Lackland AFB), Montgomery, AL (Maxwell AFB), Arenrath, Germany (Spangdahlem AB), Benton AR, Hot Springs AR and finally Vancouver, WA.
Her travels did not just include moves to new locations, but traveling for vacation and enjoyment, as well. She enjoyed discovering and seeing new places and old places. This covered wanting to know more about her Lord with the trips to Israel and Turkey to walk in the steps of Christ and Paul. But it was also to enjoy life which included trips to Europe, Scotland, and Alaska with friends and family. Time going to sporting events to include hockey and baseball and eating out at new and favorite places to watch sports and be with friends were favorite things for her to enjoy. She always had a smile and a voice no one could miss as she talked with anyone she met. Along with friends and family, her cats and dogs were her passion and love. She would tell everyone she knew about them and their latest antics.
Her career included accounting and executive secretary positions. Her favorite position was when her and Larry settled down in Hot Springs, Arkansas as the executive secretary at the Mid-American Science Museum. Her hobbies spanned a wide range of activities, her love of traveling, crocheting, reading, volunteering, pets, baseball, the DAV, American Legion, and the Elks auxiliaries.
Her true passion was giving back through many volunteer efforts. She volunteered throughout her life. As a mom, she volunteered at the boys’ schools and was always involved in various military and spouse organizations, to include tours of Germany for military women. Once they moved to Arkansas she got very involved and volunteered at church and The Caring Place in Hot Springs, Arkansas, teaching seniors basic computer skills.
As a wife and Mom, she organized the family trips and vacations, and often acted as a single parent while Larry was on remote tours and TDY’s. All of the kids in the neighborhood knew which house was always open. They would be a part of the family and once they had a tour of the kitchen, it became home and family to many of the neighborhood kids over the years. If they needed correction, she had her Mom voice and look “Naughty Nice” to get them back in line.
Pat also had the ability to make people laugh by her naive awareness of things around her and her love for life. She will be missed by her loving husband, Larry, her sons and their families, her many relatives, as well as the many friends she has all around the world.
