What can I expect?
We have a specific format:
- Introduction
- Light moment (ex: what made you laugh, what brought you joy)
- Education
- Individual Sharing – this is the bulk of the meeting
- Resources and Upcoming Events
Is there a cost?
There is no cost to attend our groups or our monthly Community Education.
Who are the people who facilitate the groups?
They are amazing volunteers who have personal and/or professional experience with dementia and who have completed HOPE’s Facilitator Training.
Can I get help with Zoom?
Yes. If you need help, please reach out to your facilitator.
Do I have to share my story?
No. Sharing is not required, though it is encouraged. We learn from each other.
What if I don’t feel like talking?
You can pass during the sharing time, though again, we learn from each other and sharing allows for others to get to know you and have a greater understanding of your journey.
What if I come in late or have to leave early?
There is not a problem with a group member coming in late. Just make sure that you enter the group quietly, so as not to disrupt someone else talking. If you need to leave early, it is helpful for the facilitator to know so that they can make sure you have time to share.
What about confidentiality?
One of our guidelines is that what is shared in the groups is confidential, unless a group member gives specific permission for it to be shared outside the group.
Do I have to show up for all meetings?
No, though it is helpful to attend as often as possible. A facilitator will be there every week.
