Carle graduated in 1966 from the University of Washington with a degree in Electrical Engineering and started work with Weyerhaeuser in Longview, WA, retiring in 1999. However, he continued working as a consultant for another ten years. His passion is the game of bridge in which he is a Platinum Life Master who has won numerous Sectional and Regional Tournaments over the years. He has also been active in bridge governance – long-time member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) Unit 452 Board, past president of its District 20, and currently its Secretary.

Carle first heard of Alzheimer’s 10 years ago when the ACBL ran special games for The Longest Day, a fundraiser in support for the Alzheimer’s Association honoring caregivers. Over the years he has organized games in the Longview and Vancouver Bridge clubs, plus set up fundraising events for others in the community to benefit the cause.

Carle raised four children (? – the youngest is now over 50!), with four grandchildren and one great grandson. He resides in Longview, WA, and cares for his wife Susan, who has Alzheimer’s, at home.
